Growing up from a young age on a hobby farm is where Tanya attributes her love of animals, which propelled her into a career as a Veterinary Nurse. Her empathy has allowed her to connect not only with animals but with her clients when they need support and comfort.

Q. What made you pursue a career as a Veterinary Nurse?

A. A love of animals developed early having grown up on a hobby farm with a variety of animals and wildlife.  I wanted to continue the passion and care into my career and Vet Nursing was the perfect fit.

Q. How do you balance your career with everyday life?

A. I am lucky to be working at a clinic that understands that people have varied lives and they accommodate shifts that work for us all.

Q. What do you wish people knew about veterinary nurses?

A. Along with their compassion, vet nurses are knowledgeable and skilled in many areas of animal health and care. There is extensive and ongoing training for nurses in all aspects of caring for patients, for example, anaesthesia, density, dental imagery, medical, surgical, emergency, critical care and more.

Q. What motivates you?

A. Exercise. I am fortunate to live by the water, so running 8km along the bay most days really clears my mind and sets me up for the day with a positive mindset and energy to manage the workday ahead.

Q. What challenges do you face and how do you overcome them?

A. I have always had the philosophy that no individual has all the answers, so if I run into a challenge, I seek the best person that can help me overcome it.

Q. What do you think your superpower is?

A. Having empathy/understanding and therefore giving comfort and support to clients when their fur babies are sick.
